On January 1, 2019, I decided to make a resolution that might someday make a difference for my neighborhood and community while contributing to a greener future. My resolution evolved into one of planting a tree on Arbor Day 2019.
This year, Arbor Day falls on Friday, April 26th. I learned from the Arbor Day Foundation that, both nationally and in Michigan, Arbor Day is always on the last Friday of April. When I checked my calendar, I discovered I’m singing in the Troy Community Chorus “Sweet Dreams” spring concert that evening. Just in case I don’t get a tree planted by call time, I’m designating the weekend of April 27-28 as “Arbor Day Weekend.” By the end of that weekend, I plan to have planted a tree in a new place.
But, there are a few things I don’t know yet:
- I don’t know what kind of tree I’ll plant.
- I don’t know where I’ll plant the tree. (It turns out I have more trees than I thought in my yard. I may have to find someplace else in greater need of a tree.)
- I don’t know if I’ll plant it myself or with the help of friends, or possibly employ professionals.
- I don’t know if I know the best way to plant a tree.
This blog’s purpose is to provide fertile ground that will nurture me through making these decisions, get me digging into the necessary research, and, hopefully, to serve as a conduit to get some ideas from readers, from you.
