Have you had any Great Lakes island adventures in 2013 yet?
Here’s where I’ve gone exploring recently:
Three islands in Lake Erie’s Western Basin–Canada’s Pelee Island twice, just before the May migration, and two Ohio islands during Memorial Day weekend, Catawba Island (more about this “non-island” in a future post) and Johnson’s Island (perhaps arriving on the most interesting day of the year to visit).
Then, last weekend, four islands in the Honey Harbour area of Ontario: Picnic Island, Brandy’s Island, Potato Island, and Beausoleil Island, part of the Georgian Bay Islands National Park of Canada.
Tomorrow, I leave for 15 more islands, these at the headlands in the northeastern quadrant of Lake Ontario and in the Thousand Islands, the archipelago of 1,864 islands scattered up the St. Lawrence River, straddling the border between Ontario and New York, between Canada and the United States.
Are you coming?
I would love to be able to do all those islands; sounds like a lot of fun. But I had a stroke on Jan 20, 2013 and lost half my vision in both eyes on the left side. So it makes it hard to get around when you can’t drive. But have a great 15 days on the islands.
Thanks, Kathi, I have been having a great time! I will be posting more reports periodically, so perhaps you will see a bit more through my eyes.
